Innovative & Surprising Uses of GenAI
Last week I attended Generative AI for the Creative Industries Summit in London and wrote the article linked below on the broad themes.
Gen AI in the Creative Industries: Friend or Foe?
This week I’m sharing my selection of the most innovative and out of the ordinary uses of GenAI that were shared at the conference:
1. GenAI & Team Structure
To clone employees personas to see how well they will work together on future project as a team (un-named global brand). Yes, that does mean using a computer to work out how compatible humans would be.
2. GenAI & Creative Development
In workshops: Online whiteboard, Miro's AI tool to instantaneously summarise limitless numbers of post it note inputs (eg. from Colgate-Palmolive). Yes, that means uninterrupted workshops saving hours and potentially days.https://help.miro.com/hc/en-us/articles/10180187913746-Introducing-Miro-AI-BETA-
Story Boards (for content/ film) created in minutes and fine tuned live with Clients. Available in Adobe's Firefly product. Yes, this does mean illustrators will be hit hard by this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30xueN12guw
As an idea generator for content: by scraping social media platforms to collate what topics are trending...and create ideas (e.g. from TheSoul Publishing Content creators, Victor P.). These are the creators of content channels like "5 Minute Crafts"https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC295-Dw_tDNtZXFeAPAW6Aw
3. GenAI & Production
As a contributing part to the Unreal Engine platform used to create the virtual backgrounds for The Mandalorian. I highly recommend this documentary about the productionhttps://youtu.be/gUnxzVOs3rk?si=1qAvjXTyYNVNEBEa
4. GenAI & Voice Overs
Content VOs: As Voice Overs in content...in multiple languages: But the ai is indistinguishable from a real voice (eg. from TheSoul Publishing). Yes, that means no recorded human VOs in ANY language.
Ad VOs: Creating the mouth movement, to match the language spoken to camera, in multiple translations of the same Ad (eg. from L'Oréal). Yes, that means NOT filming multiple models/ actors speaking the languages, and saving considerable budget.
Live Conference VOs: Realtime voice translations at staff events that span all regions in multiple languages (e.g. from Microsoft).
5. GenAI & The Content Itself
Inspiration: To adapt visual styles of well known artists: The Coca-Cola Company's recent "Masterpiece" Ad by BLITZWORKS https://youtu.be/VGa1imApfdg?si=KTjhsLtv9sA01lsV
Virtual influencers: developed using AI (e.g. from Accenture with Mars and Coty). Check out Shadu Gram:https://www.instagram.com/shudu.gram/
Theme & Style: As the content/ theme of the Ad itself ( The Kraft Heinz Company Ketchup Ad). Yes, there were almost certainly legal discussions had about usage of GenAI generated imagery for this film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFmpVy6eGXs
Episodes: To create automated South Park episodes with prompts (NOT from South Park (thank you Ziv Meiri) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAd2nfHtYEE
Trailers: To create multiple "Alternate trailers" for movies like Star Wars in the style of Wes Anderson. No, these are NOT from Disney or Wes Anderson.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-8DT5Q8kzI
6. GenAI To Moderate Toxic Behaviour
Ai Moderator: To protect users from toxic behaviour online in games and in online chats: e.g. Minerva ai Moderator at ESL FACEIT ( Maria Laura Scuri). Resulting in a 20% reduction in toxic messages immediately after launch: https://twitter.com/FACEIT/status/1623358579867635712Read more here: https://www.pcgamer.com/20000-toxic-csgo-players-banned-in-six-weeks-by-faceit-and-googles-new-chat-ai/
