CES 2021: The Future of AI…is AGI
Jan 2021
OK...Mind Blown!
The most amazing #CES2021 session today for me was a conversation between Thomas Friedman & Amnon Shashua exploring the impact & future of AI.
Both thought leaders in this field and awesome to listen to.
What blew me away, that I hadn't fully grasped before today:
- AI (Artificial Intelligence) is going to become AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) in the next 5 years.
- AI is single-task focussed - tell me a joke, play music, drive car.
- AI is non-transferrable - these capabilities exist independently of each other.
- Even though they are grouped on devices like smart speakers, they don't transfer those learnings.
- Humans are able to transfer skills & learnings (well done us).
- BUT....this 'transfer' ability is what's next for AI.
- This for computers is called AGI (Artificial General intelligence)...it's when computer brains become like ours.
- They will be able to read & listen to words, transfer learnings, understand it & reason...not just repeat.
- It means you will have a "proper" conversation with a computer that contains reasoning.
That to me is amazing...and yes...scary.
Which is why they then went on to describe how creating & establishing shared values & ethics are vital to retain control...
